TAG In The Woods

In Art Of The Woods, Group Exhibition on February 26, 2013 at 16:35

TAG are repeating last year’s Art Of The Woods success on Bank Holiday Monday, March 18th from 11 onwards. You are welcome to come and enjoy artists at work.

Art of The Woods Project Poster 2013

These are the strict rules that TAG artists will adhere to:

● Use only material found in the forest (do NOT bring anything from outside the forest)

● Do not break branches off trees, use only debris found on the forest floor

● Do not disturb any large fallen branches- there are entire eco systems living in, under and around those.

● The only tools allowed will be a penknife

● No paper, no paints, no twine (can snag animals and birds)

● All scales of work are allowed from the smallest miniature

● The art created on the day will be left in the forest and be allowed to disintegrate (go back to nature) organically

● Remember that certain species of plants and animals may have preservation orders on them and must be left undisturbed ( frog-spawn, for example)

● Take care not to damage any living thing in the forest

TAG at The Show

In Group Exhibition on August 1, 2012 at 12:36

We are delighted to have been invited to exhibit at the Tinahely Agricultural Show this August Bank Holiday Monday 6th, 2012 where we will exhibit a small selection of work by TAG members.

You can find us in the wonderful Agri & Garden Tent where we have kindly been allocated an area for our work.

We will also have a handful of our Art Sheep on display in the sheep pens. Hopefully the judges of the sheep will be as generous this year as they were last year, where they gave the exhibited sheep 1st prizes all round.

We look forward to seeing you at The Show!

Art In The Woods – Rules of Engangement

In Group Exhibition on February 20, 2012 at 11:29

The working title for this project is “Mad as a March Hare”. The date is Saturday March 3rd 2012 @ 11.00 am in Tomnafinogue woods. The emphasis is on the mystique of the forest. The project will leave as little a footprint as possible in the forest to emphasis the fleeting nature of Man’s life on earth and the fact that we as a species are in control of how we interact with nature and the footprint we leave behind.

It is open to all TAG members to participate and it will be a public event to maximise exposure to the arts and involve them in the creative process and artists at work.

It is to be a Dogma event, and participants must operate within these guidelines:

Project Ground Rules:

  • Find your own space in the forest to work in.
  • Using only material found in the forest. (Do NOT bring anything from outside to the forest).
  • Do not break branches off any trees, use only debris found on the forest floor.
  • The only tools allowed will be a pen-knife and a small chisel.
  • No paper, no paints, no twine (can snag animals and birds)
  • No interference with squirrel count trials which are currently ongoing in the forest.
  • All scales of work are allowed from the smallest miniature.
  • Large logs and branches which are on the ground must be left undisturbed as they contain whole ecosystems e.g. bugs and beetles and so on.
  • The art created on the day will be left in the forest and be allowed to disintegrate (“go back to nature”) organically.
  • Remember that certain species and plants may have preservation orders on them. These must be left undisturbed.
  • Take care not to damage any living thing in the forest.

It is envisaged that the process will be documented with a view to publishing details of the project, perhaps in book form. Please bring your camera and take photos during the day as your art progresses.

Fleeting Forest Art

In Group Exhibition, Tinahely Arts Group on February 13, 2012 at 10:24

The forest changes every minute. Winds blow and leaves fall; animals leave their track; rain comes and washes away…

Shouldn’t art in the forest be just the same? Fleeting?

With this thought in mind, the Tinahely Art Group (TAG) had an idea; To bring together TAG members to create ‘Fleeting Forest Art’. This event will be open to all TAG member to participate in and will be a public event.

TAG’s Fleeting Forest art in Tomnafinogue Woods (Saturday 3rd March from 11 am) will leave art in the woods that is created only using small materials found on the forest floor. No outside materials (apart from pen-knives!) will be brought in, no eco-systems will be disturbed.

The art pieces will be transient, ephemeral… fleeting.

Tinahely Ewes Are Lambing

In Group Exhibition, Sheep Flock, Tinahely Arts Group on April 13, 2011 at 15:01

The lambing season is an anxious time for farmers and artist alike at the moment, but all the artists seem to be getting on with it now that the holes are drilled and the logs are ordered for the display. Judging by the wonderful happy jumping spring lambs in the fields surrounding us, the farmers are doing just fine too.

Tinahely Sheep Flock

In Group Exhibition, Tinahely Arts Group on January 13, 2011 at 13:48

TAG is currently working on a major public art project to coincide with the annual Tinahely Trail Walking Festival in 2011.  The Tinahely Sheep Flock will be comprised of approximately two dozen 2-dimensional metal sheep (almost one metre in length and more than half a meter tall, with some smaller lambs), each of which will be customised by individual artists in a variety of styles and materials.  The flock will celebrate Tinahely’s history as a vibrant market town and will be unveiled at a central location on the Festival Weekend, on Friday April 29th.  Each sheep will have an ear tag identifying its designer, and the flock will make a striking visual display for this busy weekend.

Sheep ready for artistic upgrade

For the rest of the summer, the eye-catching sheep and their lambs will be situated out and about in Tinahely, along the Railway Walk and in unexpected locations around town, to be enjoyed by residents and visitors enjoying our wonderful location and outdoor pursuits.  In the autumn the sheep will return to the Market Square, and will be taken home to over-winter with their artist owners. It is hoped that they will increase and multiply over the winter, as well as getting some refurbishment if needed, and will return to the roads and hills around Tinahely as an annual event.

Note: The Tinahely Sheep Flock project will be documented in images, words and video.
